This is a 2 hour ‘post-16’ lesson that investigates what a superpower is and what their economic, geopolitical and cultural influence is to A-Level and IB Diploma students, it is not A-Level exam board specific though the geography is universal and can be easily tailored. The lesson is the second in a unit on Globalisation. Key Question – ‘How Does Globalisation Vary Spatially?’ This lesson covers the following themes: What are global superpowers? What is their economic, geopolitical and cultural influence? What are two named examples of global superpowers? How do they differ? Concepts: Hard power Soft Power Neocolonialism Emerging Economies Military Industrial Complex Ease of use is the aim, the lesson includes a compact presentation with labeled, organised, handouts with printing instructions and is of course, proof read.
